Wednesday's Lesson: Back to NORMAL work!

The first lesson that wasn't about coursework! HOORAH!
To start with, we completed a quiz about our knowledge (or lack of) of British Sitcoms. Peepshow, Mighty Boosh, Scrubs and My Name is Earl are some of the sitcoms that featured on this quiz. We had to match up the dates, Genre (from IMDB) and tagline to the pictures of the sitcom. Taglines and Genre were realtively easy. Dates weren't however.

After disucssing our results, we began looking at Treatments, Synopsis and Loglines.
  • Treatments are usually more informative than a Synopsis and more dramatic. They usually describe the settings, characters, key scenes and overall storyline.
  • Synopsis are usually smaller and simpler than a treatment. They usually emphasise the story arc that takes the audience through the sitcom. They may focus on the journey of the main character.
  • Loglines are the shortest of the three (which sounds easier than the others, but it's NOT). They are the most concise and are solely for selling purposes. They are in some respect similar to a pitch. Focus on the attractive aspects of the sitcom for both the Institution and the Audience.
After discussing this, we were given some humerous plots, characters and settings. We we're tasked with coming up with a sitcom from these. In my group (Me, Jake and...Jake) we were given 3 slips:
  • Character - A comic drunk!
  • Setting - Cruise Ship
  • Premise - Someone owes money/is in debt.
With this, we decided that the character would be the Captain - who is a drunk who falls asleep at the "wheel" of the ship after guzzling down a bottle!
